Past, Present, and The Future of Stereotypes

"Women are not as strong as men, The best women are stay at home home moms." This post is about an overview of how stereotypes have been around since the past. How its an issue on our society right now and how it possibly will be an issue in the future. For centuries starting early in the 19th century women in america have been seen as inferior to men, meaning they are weaker then men that they are subjects that shall only be looked as mothers. They had no power, they weren't able to vote or work because women are to weak, their job is to have kids and look after them and the house. That same stereotype that women are weak carries on to today's date, but women have demonstrated that we aren't weak by serval reasons. Women raise and care for their children alone when the father chickend out. Women are hard workers, indepented, and very strong. Stereotypes now in day, are even more around today then they where back then. There are stereotypes of whether your fat, dumb, emo, skinny, blonde, nerd, and the list goes on. Stereotypes will always be present, they might change over time but they still do the same thing; categorize and wrongfully judge. The new stereotype today is that Americans are fat and infatuated with food. They made that stereotype because they saw that most people in America are overweight, doesn't mean all Americans are or that if you come to America you'll get fat aswell because your coming to America. Stereotypes won't go away, they just simpy make new ones. In the future they'll probably be a new ones, depending on what people see. Stereotype is an important issue to in-depth analysis, because people don't know how other people truely are, they are just making assumptions. They are judging people, labeling them it might even be a problem in schools or effect people.

Stereotypes; a big issue in our modern society.

I'm interested in researching how harmful stereotypes can be. I think this is an important topic because everyone is labeled, all of us set a false image for other persons. I want to know how important stereotypes are to some people and who doesn't really care about it. I want to show how harmful it is.

Big Questions

  • Why are Stereo types so harmful?
  • What purpose do stereotypes serve?
  • How do stereotypes affect your behavior on others?
  • Are certain people more subjected to stereotyping then others?
  • What can we do to reduce stereotype?
